BRITISH INVASION: Excitement is building around British act Herman’s Hermits’ concert on Saturday but a few tickets are still available, says Gisborne theatre marketing and relationships leader Mara Weiss. Tickets began selling early for the much-anticipated farewell tour concert that includes the 1960s band’s original drummer Barry Whitwam. Lead singer Peter Noone left the band in 1971 to pursue a solo career in the music business but, driven by Whitwam, the group carried on. When the 1960s British Invasion hit worldwide, Herman’s Hermits were one of the biggest groups out of the UK with hits such as Mrs Brown You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter, There’s a Kind of Hush, and A Must to Avoid.
“It’s all about the songs and we were very lucky to have had a lot of hits in the 60s that people still want to hear today,” says the band's original drummer, Barry Whitwam.
