■ Going Local - Build-a-band

Smash Palace today from 5.30pm. Independent Music New Zealand presents a free networking session called Going Local. It’s an informal way to talk to established people in the industry and find out how it works, who to talk to, what you need, why things happen and where you should look for help. Build-a-band will start at 8pm.

■ Karaoke

Friday September 22 at Breakers’ Jandal Bar.

■ Yaw Asumadu and Ozi Ozaa Afrofunk

Dome Cinema Bar, PBC, Friday September 29, 8pm. An 11-piece band with a joyful and jaw-dropping fusion of Afro-grooves and jazz. Tickets $30 at eventfinda or $40 cash only at the door.

■ Organic Wine Week celebrations

Wright’s Vineyard and Winery are now hosting their Community Organic Day at their vineyard tomorrow, Friday September 29. The fun includes community flax planting, setting up Gisborne’s first  community organic biodynamic cow pat pit, creating biodynamic preparation 500 and nibbles and wine. ■ Good Folks’ Tūranga Bal

Good Folk is hosting the Tūranga Bal on September 30, featuring the dance genre of Balfolk — best danced to live music. Over the two-days Balfolk workshops for dancers and musicians alike will be held, Appalachian clogging, waiata-a-ringa, community folk dance events will also be included. Events will be held at Mangapapa School Hall and the Girl Guide Hall. For info contact jane@folkdance.nz.

■ YMO presents NZ Skate Nationals After Party

■ Te Ara i Whiti 2023

Kelvin Park, Corner Stout St and Fitzherbert St. For Te Ara I Whiti 2023, Ngaire Tuhua has created Tapu Kōrako which is a 6m-wide, 2.5m-tall golden aluminum steel 2D form of Tapu Kōrako — a personification of light and life. Friday September 29 to Sunday October 8, from 12pm – 10pm, free.

■ The Gypsy Fair

Saturday September 30 and Sunday October 1. Churchill Park. Free entry and entertainment, from 9am to 5pm. the door. Check out the funky stalls and the cool vehicles.

■ Tribal Bellydance Gisborne

At Wild Earth Studio, one hour lessons. Join the vibrant and fun Tribal Bellydance classes every Sunday 10.30am to 11.30am. The first class is free. Come along, bring a friend and try it out. ■ Dreamers - Louise Walsh and Jolene Douglas

Walsh’s  work stems from her first piece, The Beginning, its simple lines and colours creating an overall pattern and base for other works. The exhibition finishes on October 1.

■ Wearable Art by Susan Holmes

The exhibition of Wearable Art by Susan Holmes is currently on at Tairāwhiti Museum. The exhibition finishes on November 5.

■ He Kākahu Rerehua — The Uplifting Wind

Weaving together an exhibition, a collection care project and wānanga in one space, He Kākahu Rerehua — The Uplifting Wind opens on October 1. Each strand of this kaupapa will honour the different dimensions of a kākahu: the materials; the process of its creation; the life it has led; and the people it is connected to.

■ Purapura Whetu

Tairawhiti Museum, from Sunday October 1. Woven sculptures of native fibre.
