At the flicksDOME CINEMALady Macbeth: In mid-19th century rural England, a woman trapped in a loveless marriage to a much older man begins a passionate affair with a man her own age, and stops at nothing to get what she wants.

The Changeover: Film adaptation of Margaret Mahy young adults’ novel, set in Christchurch and starring Erana James, Melanie Lynskey, Lucy Lawless, Kate Harcourt and British actor Timothy Spall. A troubled teenager must “change over” and become a witch in order to save her little brother from an evil ancient spirit.

Spookers: Florian Habicht documentary about the horror theme park occupying the old Kingseat psychiatric hospital.

A Date for Mad Mary: Mary’s best friend is getting married and she is to be maid of honour. Denied a “plus one” invitation because her friend says she probably couldn’t find a date, Mary sets out to prove her wrong.

ODEON MULTIPLEXThe Mountain Between Us: Idris Elba and Kate Winslet star as survivors of a light-plane crash in the mountains. When they realise help is not coming, they embark on a perilous journey across hundreds of kilometres of wilderness, discovering reserves of strength they never suspected they had. Happy Death Day: A sort of scary Groundhog Day . . . a college girl is killed on her birthday, but keeps waking up the previous morning. She then sets out to find the killer to stop her own murder. Stars Jessica Rothe and Israel Broussard. Directed by Christopher B. Landon, son of the late Michael Landon (Little House on the Prairie, Little Joe in Bonanza) and director and co-writer of Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse.

Blade Runner 2049: Thirty years after the events of the 1982 classic, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling) unearths a secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K must seek out long-missing former blade runner Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford).

Battle of the Sexes: Emma Stone is women’s tennis great Billie Jean King and Steve Carell is hustler and former Wimbledon champion Bobby Riggs in a film based on their 1973 landmark match.

Flatliners: Twenty-eight years after Nelson Wright (Kiefer Sutherland) survived his experiments of near-death experiences, a group of medical students do the same.

Captain Underpants: Animated movie about two comic-book-writing friends who hypnotise their mean-spirited school principal into believing he is Captain Underpants, whose only superpower is stupidity.

Kingsman — The Golden Circle: The agents join their American counterparts, Statesman, to counter a worldwide threat. Stars Taron Egerton, Mark Strong, Julianne Moore, Colin Firth, Halle Berry and Elton John.

The Lego Ninjago Movie: Spin-off from The Lego Movie. Lloyd Garmadon leads teenagers trained by an old ninja master to protect the city.

The Emoji Movie: Gene lives in a digital city inside the phone of his user. A multi-expressional emoji, Gene just wants to be normal.

Victoria & Abdul: Queen Victoria (Judi Dench) and young Indian clerk Abdul Karim (Ali Fazal) form a friendship that the royal household and inner circle try to destroy.
