A Real Therapy

Graeme Nicoll has sketched, painted and carved for as long as he can remember. It's his happy place, hence his exhibition's title. This exhibition concentrates mainly on his artwork since retiring in 2018. Tairāwhiti Museum, until March 26.

Circle the Square

A series of paintings created during Ryan Ledger's recovery process of mental health after burning himself out — after completing his media arts degree while also making music videos in the underground R&B and hip-hop scene in New Zealand. The exhibition explores the themes of identity and his interpretation of what spirituality is while identifying as a gay man. Tairāwhiti Museum, until March 19.

Ka Waiata Au

This exhibition is an extension of Erena Koopu's exploration of waiata in paint. These works are a translation of lyrical excellence, of iwi histories and whakapapa through visual expression. Tairāwhiti Museum, opening February 18.

Magic Mike's Last Dance

The Son

A prequel to The Father, for which Anthony Hopkins won his second Oscar for best actor. Hopkins appears in this film, too, but the story focuses on his screen son, Peter, played by Hugh Jackman, and Peter's relationship with his son from his first marriage. Seventeen-year-old Nicholas comes to live with Peter and his new wife, after Nicholas's mother (Laura Dern) tells Peter that their son is depressed and has dropped out of school. Things do not go smoothly.

We Are Still Here

An Australian-New Zealand anthology film created as a response to the 250th anniversary of the second voyage of James Cook to Australia in 1772. The project consists of 10 linked short films by each of 10 Indigenous Australian and Māori filmmakers about the impact of settler colonialism on the region's indigenous cultures. The films were directed by Beck Cole, Dena Curtis, Tracey Rigney, Danielle MacLean, Tim Worrall, Renae Maihi, Miki Magasiva, Mario Gaoa, Richard Curtis and Chantelle Burgoyne.

Everybody Hates Johan

Technician blaster Johan Grande lives in a Norwegian town that has never fully accepted the Grande family as its own. Johan shares his family farm with the wild horse Ella and a lot of dynamite. Johan loves Ella and explosions, but not much else, except for Solvor, the girl next door and love of his life, and the one he accidentally blew up a bit during his younger days.

Elvis

Austin Butler won a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Elvis Presley in probably the best film so far on the life and music of The King.
