Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets: Corrosive mass threatens 28th-century space metropolis housing species from a thousand planets. Space agents Major Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Sergeant Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are sent to investigate. Luc Besson directed, co-produced and wrote the screenplay, based on a French sci-fi comic series.

Annabelle: Creation: A prequel to the 2014 film Annabelle, and the fourth film in The Conjuring series. Stephanie Sigman, Talitha Bateman, Anthony LaPaglia and Miranda Otto star in story behind the origin of the possessed Annabelle doll.

Met Opera: Der Rosenkavalier: Comic opera by Richard Strauss with four main characters: the aristocratic Marschallin, her young lover Count Octavian Rofrano, her cousin Baron Ochs and Och’s prospective fiancee, Sophie von Faninal. Renee Fleming and Elina Garanca sing the lead roles.

The Big Sick: Romantic comedy based on the real-life courtship of Pakistan-born comedian Kumail Nanjiani and graduate student Emily V. Gordon.

Atomic Blonde: Charlize Theron plays an MI6 spy sent to Berlin on the eve of the Berlin Wall’s collapse to take down an espionage ring that has just killed an agent.

Hampstead: A widow (played by Diane Keaton) forms a relationship with a tramp (Brendan Gleeson) who has created a well-tended smallholding in the grounds of a disused hospital.

Baby Driver: Getaway driver Baby is in deep with the wrong people. Initially driving to pay off a debt, he is coerced into another job that could be the death of him. Edgar Wright film stars Ansel Elgort, Kevin Spacey, Jon Hamm and Jamie Foxx.

Dunkirk: The Dunkirk story, directed by Christopher Nolan. Unknown actors in lead roles reflect soldiers’ inexperience. Kenneth Branagh, Tom Hardy and Mark Rylance also star.

War for the Planet of the Apes: Caesar and his apes are forced into conflict with an army of humans.

Despicable Me 3: Gru (Steve Carell) faces off against Balthazar Bratt, a former child star obsessed with the character he played.

Cars 3: Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) sets out to prove he’s still got it.

DOME CINEMA

Looking for Infinity: El Camino: The path from St Jean Pied de Port to Santiago de Compostela — El Camino de Santiago, or the Way of Saint James — is a pilgrimage considered to be metaphorical for the journey from cradle to grave. This documentary takes the viewer on the walk.

The Journey: Colm Meaney plays Sinn Fein leader Martin McGuinness and Timothy Spall plays loyalist leader Ian Paisley in a reconstruction of how a shared car journey might have gone in the lead-up to Northern Ireland power-sharing talks.

This Beautiful Fantastic: A would-be children’s author must tidy her garden or be evicted. She befriends a gruff neighbour who likes gardening.

Despite the Falling Snow: A young woman in post-Stalinist Soviet Union spying for the Americans marries a member of the Kremlin elite to get information, falls in love and plans to defect with him. Thirty years later, he returns to see what happened to her.
