Lindah Lepou is an internationally renowned, fa'afafine artist, with an interdisciplinary (and collaborative) practice in fashion, photography, film, music, and/or performance. Tairāwhiti Museum, until November 6.

Beginnings: The Origins and Progress of a Painter

This exhibition consists of 31 paintings dating from 1956, when the artist Peter Ireland was nine, until the later 1990s when he was middle-aged, plus a mass of documentary material in vitrines, all charting his very zig-zagging course as a self-taught painter. Tairāwhiti Museum, until November 13.

Gisborne Artists, Potters and Photographers annual exhibition

This year's combined exhibition of the Gisborne Artists, Potters and Photographers will showcase a diverse range of artworks, ceramics and photography. Tairāwhiti Museum, until September 25.

A 17-year-old boxer preparing for a fight that could elevate him to professional status re-evaluates his life after tangling with a gay Māori boy who lives in a hut on the beach. Tim Roth stars as the boxer's alcoholic father and coach. A New Zealand film.

Documentary that examines allegations of abuse at the Gloriavale Christian Community.

DC League of Super-Pets

Krypto the Super-Dog and Superman are inseparable best friends, sharing the same superpowers and fighting crime in Metropolis side by side. When Superman and the rest of the Justice League are kidnapped, Krypto must convince a rag-tag shelter pack — Ace the hound, PB the potbellied pig, Merton the turtle and Chip the squirrel — to master their own newfound powers and help him rescue the superheroes. With the voice talents of Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart and Keanu Reeves.

Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen, A Journey, A Song

An exploration of the life of singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen as seen through the prism of his internationally renowned hymn, Hallelujah. The documentary weaves together three creative strands: the songwriter and his times; the song's dramatic journey from record label reject to chart-topping hit; and moving testimonies from major recording artists for whom Hallelujah has become a personal touchstone.

Moonage Daydream

A 2022 documentary film about English singer-songwriter David Bowie. Written, directed, produced and edited by Brett Morgen, the film uses previously unreleased footage from Bowie's personal archives, including live concert footage. Film title is the name of a Bowie song.

Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank

Computer-animated cartoon in which a down-on-his-luck hound finds himself in a town full of cats who need a hero to defend them from a ruthless villain's plot to wipe their village off the map. With help from a reluctant trainer, the underdog must assume the role of fearsome samurai and team up with the felines to save the day. The only problem is — they all hate dogs. With the voice talents of Samuel L. Jackson, Ricky Gervais, Michael Cera and Mel Brooks. The plot is broadly taken from Brooks's Blazing Saddles.

In 1950s London, plans for a movie version of a smash-hit play come to an abrupt halt after a pivotal member of the crew is murdered. When a world-weary inspector and an eager rookie constable take on the case, they find themselves thrown into a puzzling whodunit within the glamorously sordid world of underground theatre, investigating the mysterious homicide at their own peril. Affectionate parody of Agatha Christie-type crime stories, with one of Christie's most famous “confections” having a key role in the plot. Sam Rockwell and Saoirse Ronan star as Scotland Yard investigators.

In a violent, post-pandemic world, a peace-loving man is forced on a desperate journey to find life-saving drugs for his wife. To get them he must first help an ornery old man defend his cabin against all-comers. Kiwi film starring Josh McKenzie, Michael Hurst and Marshall Napier.

As a shocking truth about a couple's families emerges, the lovers discover they are not so different from each other.

Three Thousand Years of Longing

A scholar of story and mythology finds a djinn in a bottle and is offered three wishes to set him free. Stars Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba.

Lancaster

Archival material tells the story of the Lancaster, the British bomber responsible for some of the most famous flying missions during World War 2. The film features accounts from some of the men who flew in the bomber and, while honouring the courage and sacrifice of the airmen, it acknowledges the human cost of the bombing raids.

Drama about the 2007 police raids of the Ngai Tūhoe community of Ruatoki.

Documentary that examines allegations of abuse at the Gloriavale Christian Community.
