Developed by Anne Frank House in the Netherlands, and viewed by more than 10 million people in 80 countries, this exhibition explores what life in hiding was like for Anne, her family, and the other occupants of Prinsengracht 263. Tairāwhiti Museum, opening May 26.

Escape from Mogadishu

Based-on-fact story of rival diplomats from North Korea and South Korea becoming trapped as civil war rages in Mogadishu, Somalia. With no aid from either government, their only shot at survival requires them to work with one another. Director Ryoo Seung-wan has earned plaudits for the pacing and tone of the movie. One critic says the film offers “yet more proof that Korea is producing some of the most absorbing cinematic and televisual storytelling in the world today”.

A Hero

Iranian film that has Rahim (Amir Jadidi) in prison because of a debt he was unable to repay. During a two-day leave, he tries to convince his creditor (Mohsen Tanabandeh) to withdraw his complaint against the payment of part of the sum. But things don't go as planned.

Happening

French film, set in 1963, about a gifted 23-year-old literature student who wants an abortion. The law will not allow it, and the film follows her quest to secure an abortion before her pregnancy becomes obvious.

Helmut Newton: The Bad and the Beautiful

Trailblazing photographer Helmut Newton had a defining impact on fashion and art. Writer-director Gero von Boehm uses interviews with some of the late photographer's subjects to shed light on Newton's art.
