THEATREUnity Theatre Auditions: Gisborne playwright and novelist Jackie Davis (Whether I Fall) brings her latest work to life. Set in the final days of World War I, A Time Like This follows Douglas Chapman, a war artist, who returns to Auckland from the battlefields of France. Based on a true story concerning a contest “up north”, the film boasts an appealing cast, great soundtrack, gorgeous scenery, amiable humour and a message about the perils of overfishing. Collateral Beauty: A successful advertising executive (Will Smith), retreating from life following personal tragedy, writes letters to Love, Time and Death. When he gets personal responses, he begins to understand how these constants interlock in a life fully lived. Also stars Helen Mirren, Edward Norton, Keira Knightley, Kate Winslet and Michael Pena.

A Man Called Ove: Film written and directed by Hannes Holm, based on Fredrik Backman’s book of the same name. Rolf Lassgard plays Ove, a townhouse neighbourhood’s sullen and world-weary prefect, whose life is turned around when a boisterous family move in next door. After the neighbours’ car knocks over a letterbox, friendship develops. Swedish entry for Best Foreign Language Film in the Academy Awards.
