Future Filmmakers Workshop

The Vista Foundation 48Hours is coming to Gisborne to run a half-day workshop designed to upskill filmmakers and be a networking event to connect with the local film community. Salt

Salt, a photographic exhibition by Phil Yeo, is an exploration of our community here in Te Tairāwhiti. The portrait series considers our collective and individual identities and was produced during 2020, as the global pandemic changed our world. Tairāwhiti Museum until August 21.

Sea of Positivity

Let Me Be Myself

Developed by Anne Frank House in the Netherlands, and viewed by more than 10 million people in 80 countries, this exhibition explores what life in hiding was like for Anne, her family, and the other occupants of Prinsengracht 263. Tairāwhiti Museum, until July 24.

Elvis

The Lion King Reo Maori

The '90s Disney classic is revoiced in Te Reo Māori. It is a film full of colourful animal characters and a classic battle between good and evil.

Minions: The Rise of Gru

In the 1970s, young Gru tries to join a group of supervillains called the Vicious 6 after they oust their leader — the legendary fighter Wild Knuckles. When the interview turns bad, Gru and his Minions go on the run with the Vicious 6 hot on their tails. Luckily, he finds an unlikely source for guidance — Wild Knuckles himself — and soon discovers that even bad guys need a little help from their friends.

Whina

Rena Owen, Miriama McDowell, James Rolleston, Tioreore Ngatai-Melbourne and Vinnie Bennett star in a film that follows the life of Māori leader Dame Whina Cooper, who spent her life breaking boundaries, speaking for the rights of Māori and fighting for the land. Directed by James Napier Robertson and Paula Whetu Jones, who both wrote the screenplay with James Lucas.

Lightyear

Space ranger Buzz Lightyear, from Toy Story, embarks on an intergalactic adventure alongside ambitious recruits and his robot companion, Sox. As they tackle their toughest mission yet, they must learn to work as a team to escape the evil Zurg and his robot army.

Jurassic World Dominion

Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill appear together in the Jurassic franchise for the first time since Jurassic Park (1993). Dominion is set four years after the events of Fallen Kingdom. Dinosaurs now live alongside humans in a fragile balance. Chris Pratt also stars.

Top Gun: Maverick

After more than 30 years of service as one of the Navy's top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell is now a test pilot. Called in to train a detachment of graduates for a special assignment, Maverick must confront the ghosts of his past. The film has grossed over $1 billion worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film of 2022 and the highest-grossing film of Cruise's career.

Nobody Has to Know

A man who has had a stroke and has no memories of his life meets a woman on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. She lets him into a secret: they were in love.

Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy

Japanese film in which three women deal with the problems of modern relationships in different situations. A young woman's friend falls in love with her ex; a bitter student asks his lover to trap his professor.; and two old friends meet again after 20 years. The film was previewed online and in cinemas in four cities across the world to buyers, the press, and the festival juries in the Competition of the 71st Berlin International Film Festival from March 1 to 5, 2021, after which it was awarded the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize.

Diana's Wedding

Film review website Rotten Tomatoes says Diana's Wedding is “a loud homage to diving head-first into a relationship” and “a comedy about two people who never stop loving each other despite occasionally hating each other's guts”. Norwegian film about a rollercoaster of a marriage, seen through the eyes of Diana, from her birth to the day she moves away from home.

Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom

A disillusioned teacher is transferred to the most remote school in the world, deep in the Himalayan glaciers. In a classroom with no electricity or even a blackboard, he finds himself with only a yak and a song that echoes through the mountains.
