From Waiapu to Wairoa

Choral music selections that range from works by 16th century English composer William Byrd to 20th century composer John Rutter will be part of the Choir of Waiapu Cathedral’s programme for a concert in Wairoa this month.

Put together by musical director, Anthony Tattersall, the Napier choir’s programme O Sing Joyfully will be performed St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Wairoa on June 30.

This is the choir’s first visit to Wairoa but Mr Tattersall’s name will be familiar to many Wairoa residents. After immigrating to New Zealand from England five years ago Mr Tattersall taught at Tiaho Primary School. With more than 35 years of musical experience as a chorister, soloist, conductor, organist and musical director behind him, he led Wairoa’s Lighthouse Lions Singers and played the piano for services at St Paul’s. After relocating to Napier he became director of music at Napier’s Cathedral of St John the Evangelist where he directs the choir and is resident organist. He also regularly plays the organ for services at Taradale’s All Saints Church and directs the local choral octet, Octavius.

The Choir of Waiapu Cathedral will sing in St Paul’s Anglican Church, Wairoa, during the morning service at 9.30am and will perform a concert at 1.30pm.
