Nova Avni’s colection, Flight Path, is on display at Tairawhiti Museum until May 9.
Woven works based on traditional raranga techniques mixed with wild Israeli organic weaving make up New Zealand/Israeli woman Nova Avni’s collection, Flight Path, at Tairawhiti Museum.
“Having no access to flax in Israel, local women weavers invited me on a journey to discover and experience wild weaving with local fauna,”
writes Avni.
“The historical and cultural differences between the two countries have shown me the potential of art as a means to express individual identity in a respectful manner and as a social bridge between people, a reminder not to lose what we have.”
