Fire, a smooth reggae song described by Hamilton-based six-piece Soulfej as evoking images of warm nights at the beach, will feature in the band’s playlist when they play at Smash Palace tomorrow. The band is coming to Gisborne as part of its debut release tour and promises reggae/dub sounds and three-part harmonies. Two band members, Amy and Whitney Maynard are sisters from Gisborne but the band’s name came from when Soulfej’s core members studied music in Hamilton. They took syllables from the technique known as solmisation (do re mi fa so la ti do) that features in Western music and gave them a twist.

Soulfej, Smash Palace, tomorrow, 8.30pm. Free entry.
