The McNeil family enjoyed a complete sellout in their 10th annual on-farm sale at Puketoro Station on Wednesday.

A total of 6400 sheep and 1020 cattle changed hands.

A good-sized crowd attended on what was a near-perfect sale day on the family property on the Ihungia Rd, inland from Tokomaru Bay.

The best of the Romdale ewes on offer sold for $294 (2-tooths) and the best of the Coopdale ewes went for $302 (also 2-tooths).

The cattle yarding produced some top-dollar sales, too.

Best of the 15-month Angus steers achieved $2350, while the pick of the 15-month heifers sold for $1940.

As usual, the sale attracted a big crowd of buyers and supporters. After the sale had finished, they enjoyed the hospitality the McNeil family always provide.

“In the sheep it was a pleasing sale price-wise, and at the same time the buyers got good value for money,” Shane Scott from Central Livestock said.

He said the cattle component of the sale was “incredibly strong”.

“It was driven by repeat buyers who appreciate the type and temperament of the stock.”
