Craft a “DAD” salt dough photo frame — a simple yet meaningful Father’s Day gift that a child can easily make. Using just fundamental crafting materials and adult supervision you can design a customised memento that Dad will cherish over time.

Ingredients

1 cup flour

3/4th cup salt

Combine flour and salt in a large mixing bowl. Slowly add water and knead until you have a playdough-like consistency.

Add 2-3 drops of food colouring of your choice and knead into dough. Add more colour as needed, and continue mixing until you have your desired shade. You may also add some dried rose petals.

Divide dough into three balls of even size and place on your baking sheet.

Form dough into letters, pressing so that they are generally flat and approximately 1cm thick. Make sure all the letters are touching each other (so you have one big piece of dough) because you want them to stick together as a frame.

Bake at 100 degree C for about 3 hours. If your dough is still soft, bake a little longer. Check regularly to make sure it doesn’t burn.

Flip frame so bottom is facing up and bake for an additional hour at 120 degree C.

Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely.

Glue photos to the back of the salt dough picture frame so each child’s face peeks through the holes in the middle of the letters.

When that’s done, your frame is ready to be gifted to your Dad.
