Actors sought for 2021

Queen by New Zealand playwright Sam Brooks, Robert Harling's Steel Magnolias, Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie, Agatha Christie's whodunnit The Mousetrap, and She Kills Monsters by Qui Nguyen are lined up for Evolution Theatre Company's play list for 2021.

Auditions for the first three shows will be held at the theatre, 75 Disraeli Street, on January 2 at 11am.

ETC artistic director Dinna Myers is particularly keen to find male actors to perform in Queen. ETC's version of the play will be an “LGTBQ+ multimedia experience that shines a light on gay culture in New Zealand”.

More than four men are needed to make the project fly, says Myers on the theatre's Facebook page.

“I have a strong preference that the actors be gay, as the story is about what it is like to be gay in New Zealand, and authenticity is crucial to the story-telling. But, if need be, I will consider working with actors who are not in the LGTBQ+ community.

“Experience is not crucial and is far exceeded by a fun-loving spirit.”

The show is scheduled to run February 25-27.

Level Up: drama, dance and performance workshops

Actor/writer/director Belinda Campbell and choreographer/dancer Anita Zwart are running drama, acting and dance workshops this month.

The drama workshops under Campbell will take actors' skills while Zwart will help polish workshoppers' dance skill and gear up them for auditions.

Supported by Creative Communities NZ and Gisborne District Council, the drama, dance and performance workshops will be held at Evolution Theatre Company January 27-31.
