OUT EAST: Gisborne artist Pru Davis’ painting Matakaoa features in her exhibition, Landscapes, at Tairawhiti Museum.
Brought up in Motu, Gisborne painter Pru Davis was always surrounded by art, says the artist in notes about her exhibition, Landscapes, at Tairawhiti Museum.
“I clearly remember my mum, Lois Davis (née Watkins) always outside, painting somewhere with her easel and palette and, of course, paintings were everywhere.
“I
recently retired to focus on developing and exploring my own creativity. For many years I have been lucky and fortunate to have lived and worked on the East Cape.”
In love with the place, she wants to convey some of its beauty and energy.
“My paintings are generally as big as the landscape here is immense and powerful. It would be difficult to convey this on a smaller scale.
