The Gisborne Comedy gala makes its debut at Wrights Vineyard and Winery on Saturday.
Former Gisborne man Joseph Walsh aka Jo Wa will make his stand up comedy comeback and emcee the event.
Wa discovered a talent for stand up when he got on stage at an open mic night
at Wellington’s San Francisco Bath House. The venue is a regular venue. Wa’s routine was well received so he got a happy ending after all. His routines include a parody of Robbie Williams’ song Angel about a college student studying for trigonometry exams which involves, you know, angles. He also does a mean Donald Trump impersonation and promises to make Gisborne comedy great again. The winery encourages ‘have-a-go’ comedians with 5-10 minute open mic slots for comics. Sunny conditions are forecast with intermittent spot prizes. An audience choice award is also up for grabs.
Gisborne Comedy Gala, Wrights Vineyard and Winery, 1093 Wharerata Road, Manutuke, October 20, 2pm. Free entry/koha.
