Tourist spending in Gisborne climbing

TOURISTS to Gisborne spent $146 million for the year ended January 2018, up eight percent from the same period last year.

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) released the latest figures.

MBIE manager of sector trends Mark Gordon said international visitors spent $29 million (up 17 percent compared with the year to January 2017), and domestic tourists spent $117 million (up six percent) in that period.

“When it comes to the monthly expenditure, tourism spend in Gisborne for January 2018 is up 15 percent compared with January 2017,” Mr Gordon said.
