ACTIVATE Tairawhiti is planning to introduce a co-working centre called Launch, and is seeking expressions of interest from entrepreneurs attracted to the idea of working in a shared, modern, tech-driven space.
The co-working concept is popular around the world, with centres such as Chicago 1871 a great example.
A numberof such spaces operate in New Zealand, most supported with funding from external organisations. Activate Tairawhiti is working with Ngati Porou Holdings on the project.
Activate Tairawhiti general manager Steve Breen said Launch will afford start-ups an opportunity to save on costs in the early stages of growth while they build their business and income.
As members prove their business, Mr Breen said they will naturally outgrow the co-working space and be ready to take on the financial risk of their own offices, making room for the next start-up in the process.
