A public barbecue has helped welcome the second group of families who are settling into their new temporary homes in Opal Drive.
Around 50 people from the Kāinga Atawhai village, neighbours, Tauranga Community Housing Trust staff and Kai Aroha volunteers gathered at Topaz Reserve for an informal get together over sausages, burgers and ice creams today. Tauranga Community Housing Trust business manager, Paul Wollaston, said it was a gathering to welcome the second group of tenants into the community.
"It's an opportunity for the tenants to meet members from the Tauranga Community Housing Trust, as well as other tenants," he said.
Invitations to the barbecue were dropped into neighbouring letterboxes over the last few weeks and community organisations were invited as well, Wollaston said.
