"Recycling ambassadors" are at work in Tauranga over summer as part of a project to reduce littering.
The Keep Tauranga Beautiful and Tauranga City Council pilot project will prompt holidaymakers to dispose of their waste at tourism hotspots.
Six recycling stations staffed by "ambassadors", are in place around Tauranga. There are two each downtown, on The Mall in Pilot Bay and at Mount Maunganui's Main Beach.
Keep Tauranga Beautiful branch chairman Marty Hoffart said the project promoted sensible waste management and showcased Tauranga as an attractive city.
"We live in such a beautiful city with incredible beaches and natural attractions and this is a great chance to show all our visitors how much we care about keeping the place clean and tidy," Mr Hoffart said.
