Statistics released by Safekids Aotearoa also showed 97 per cent were due to accidents, 2 per cent were assault, 1 per cent were self inflicted and less than 1 per cent were of undetermined causes.
Fractures made up 46 per cent of the injuries followed by open wounds at 12 per cent.
Of the injuries, 40 per cent occurred at home, 15 per cent at school and 9 per cent occurred on sports arenas, the outdoors and the road.
