The dog at centre of an attack which left a 3-year-old boy with serious bite wounds to the face last week is still at Tauranga's dog pound.
The dog, a pit bull, was secured on a chain when it allegedly attacked the Hastings toddler on Thursday morning at a Matapihi property.
Tauranga City Council animal services team leader Brent Lincoln confirmed the dog was still impounded, pending the results of the police investigation.
Western Bay of Plenty police Inspector Karl Wright St-Clair said inquiries were continuing and an update was expected later today or tomorrow.
The boy was discharged fro Tauranga Hospital on Friday. His family declined to comment.
