A caregiver at a nursing home has been jailed for a year after footage emerged of her physically abusing a wheelchair-bound elderly woman.
Roxann Bucchan-Straker was hired as a private nurse to care for the 95-year-old, but when the victim's son suspected his mother was being abused, he set up a hidden camera in her room.
In the video, Bucchan-Straker is seen serving the frail elderly woman food before slapping her in the face.
"Don't mess with me," she says, prodding her.
The 48-year-old caregiver then sat down next to the elderly woman and slapped her on the head twice, once with a phone.
The incident occurred in 2015.
Bucchan-Straker pled guilty to one count of abuse of a vulnerable adult, telling the judge she had been feeling under pressure at work and at home.
The judge told her she should be ashamed of herself before sentencing her to a five-year sentence with four years suspended. Upon learning she would be imprisoned, WUSA reports she screamed in court and collapsed.
