A New Zealander allegedly threatened airport staff with a blade in a tense 40 minute standoff at Sydney Airport this morning.
Nine News reported the man allegedly pulled out the blade as he was being deported.
For 40 minutes he allegedly threatened staff with the blade and other deportees on a bus.
It is understood he was also threatening self harm to avoid being deported.
Nine News reported the man handed himself over to police after the 40 minute standoff and was placed in police custody.
It is believed the man was a New Zealander who had his passport cancelled on character grounds.
Earlier reports said the man was an asylum seeker being deported to Christmas Island.
Nine News reports NSW Police were called to an airport terminal just before 11am, after the man allegedly pulled out the blade while in the custody of immigration authorities.
