HAGATNA, Guam (AP) Authorities are investigating allegations that Guam prison guards used stun guns, which they aren't allowed to carry, to abuse inmates.
Two Department of Corrections officers have been suspended for 20 days, as part of an investigation by the department, Guam police and the FBI, Pacific Daily News (http://ow.ly/q6D4B ) reported Wednesday.
A parent of an inmate reported an alleged Taser assault to police, said Jeff Limo, the department's special assistant to the director. Four inmates were treated by a prison doctor for injuries believed to be from Tasers, Limo said.
Officers aren't trained to use stun guns and aren't allowed to carry them.
"We aren't here to punish inmates," he said. "We are here to protect the people of Guam."
