A Celtic fan had his foot cut off by a tram in an accident on Tuesday, a spokeswoman at the Policlinico hospital which treated him said.
The 40-year-old man was walking with a friend in a central street ahead of tonight's Champions League game against AC Milan when
he lost his balance and fell in the path of the tram.
"They were two Celtic fans ... One of them, perhaps after drinking too much, lost his balance and the tram passing by was not able to avoid him," said a spokeswoman for Milan's police.
"It totally severed his right foot and it was not possible to save it," a spokeswoman at the hospital said.
Celtic play AC Milan at the San Siro stadium in Tuesday's Champions League soccer match and need a point to reach the last 16.
The Scottish team beat Milan 2-1 at home in October.
