It's looking like another hot and dry weekend across most of the country as a front that dumped some heavy rain weakens as it moves north.
Timaru experienced surface flooding after 36.8mm of rain was recorded at the airport between yesterday morning and midnight.
Other parched areas, including Christchurch and Wellington, also got a small amount of rain, 12.6mm and 10mm respectively.
About 32mm fell in the Rimutaka Ranges and up to 35mm was recorded at the Tararuas. Masterton received 15mm.
In Kaikoura, 35.8mm fell and Mahia received most of its 13.8mm in one hour from 4am today.
