Heavy downpours across Rotorua have seen short-term flooding, public events cancelled and a school camp evacuated.
And there are no signs of the rain easing up in the coming days.
A severe weather warning issued for Rotorua and the wider Bay of Plenty just before 10am today said there would be heavy rain through to the early afternoon.
At Rotorua Airport 60mm of rain had fallen by 5pm, when the weather warning was extended to expect a further 20-30mm.
The downpour, caused by a low over the Tasman Sea, looks set to continue through the weekend.
