The call has gone out again for Wanganui's basketball youth to head north where a collection of the game's greats wants to put them through their paces.

After its success last year, the second annual 5 Star Summer Fun Basketball Camp is being held at New Plymouth's TSB Stadium from January 21-23.

Running the camp is a collection of former Tall Blacks, NBL players and now coaching gurus in the form of Pero Cameron, Daryn Shaw, Willie Banks, Pete Knechtel and Matt Cleaver.

Tall Black legend Byron Vaetoe will also join this coaching crew, who ran the inaugural camp last year, to offer his own guidance.

Knechtel, the former European and Taranaki NBL player, said they would hold the three-day camp from 8.30am to 4.30pm, for boys and girls aged 9-18, this year.

"I am willing to offer a discount price of $135 to any Wanganui kids coming to the camp other camps like this are charging upwards of $200.

"This is not about making money for us, it is about offering a great basketball camp for kids of all abilities."

Those taking part get a T-shirt, their own basketball to keep, as well as lunches provided for the three days.

The camp's aim is to provide an in-depth basketball experience which focuses on the game's fundamentals.

Another aim is to have fun while at the same time learning important team values. Register through www.fivestarbasketball.co.nz.
