The exhibition will be an intimate show of Ms Wickes work.

Well-known Whanganui artist Fleur Wickes is opting to show her work in an unconventional exhibition in the upcoming Artists Open Studios.

A private view will be shown in Ms Wickes home, as opposed to a gallery space.

"It will be the opposite of a standard exhibition, when you kind of get a feel for the place where it was made and the person who made it and the objects that the artist surrounded herself with when she was making the work as opposed to the objective space of a white gallery," Ms Wickes said.

The concept is a step further from an exhibition she ran in 2009.

I did a show in 2009 at my own house as part of the Fringe Festival when I lived in Wellington called this is where i live.

She won several awards; best visual artist, best marketing and best concept.

"I really respect the whole white gallery thing but in the digital world we are so disconnected from everyone but to go into that, have a real experience of the work."

"It's something I really believe in artistically and I'm really excited about it."

Ms Wickes describes her work as "poetry on the wall."

She has a photography and creative writing background and said she started drawing her words 7 or 8 years ago.

"Words just kind of pop into my head about something or other, so I started to draw them."

"The prints I make are sort of photographic, the words make shapes which are kind of like an emotional landscape. The shape of the words are about the meaning as well as the meaning of the words themselves."

Primarily her work is black and white and tends to be quite large in size.

Ms Wickes said she is making new works for the show.

In keeping with the intimate nature of the exhibition, the viewing of the show is by appointment only.

In this way, you get to experience the show on your own, or in a small group. Text Fleur 021337661 to make a time for your private view, or go to her website www.fleurwickes.co.nz to make a booking.
