Wanganui Road Rodders made their presence known at the Protecta 2017 New Zealand Street Rod Nationals over Labour Weekend, with 16 cars from Whanganui taking part.
More than 150 vehicles from around the country took part, and Wanganui Road Rodders vice-president Gillian Hooper said the standard of the cars entered was very high.
Three Wanganui Road Rodders' cars - a 1956 Chevrolet BelAir sport coupe (owned by Tim Aurisch), a 1954 Chevrolet pickup (owned by John Fearn) and a 1964 SS Impala (owned by Doug and Gillian Hooper) - were voted among the Top 10 Street Machines.
Doug and Gillian Hooper also won the Sponsors' Choice Award and Warren "Wozzo" Kerr's 1953 Buick won the CanTeen Choice Prize. The club also received the trophy for Best Represented Club in a tie with Franklin Hot Rod Club (Auckland).
Mrs Hooper said this year had been exceptional for the Wanganui Road Rodders; and although they had won prizes before, they had never had three cars in the top 10, or been the best represented club.
