River Road closure times for flood repair work have been changed following concerns raised by residents.
Work is due to begin at Shellrock Bluff on Monday and the road - between culvert 61 and bridge 23 (Whautehi Stream) - will be closed for several periods during weekdays while it is completed.
The River Road community was unhappy with the original advertised closure times and met with council staff last month to renegotiate.
The side of the bluff will be cut into to widen the existing road after the river-side edge was damaged in June 2015.
"The repairs to Shellrock Bluff means that there will be more access for tourists and locals over the summer months and that the local economy is supported by being able to more easily bring goods and services in and out of the River Road settlement," the council's infrastructure manager, Mark Hughes, said.
"We know the Whanganui River Road community and other people who use the road want to see the works completed as soon as possible."
The final section of work on the Whanganui River Road is at Jerusalem Bluff, just before the Jerusalem settlement and council expects this work to begin before Christmas.
A replacement culvert for Ranana is expected to be completed in the first half of 2018, but is not expected to involve a full road closure.
