Whanganui players were mainly out of contention in the St Johns Club Junior and Open Tennis Tournament over the last four days, but the most successful athlete had strong connections to the River City.
However, the most successful player at the tournament did have strong connections to the city.
Hannah Sutherland-Smith from Palmerston North, is the daughter of Rosemary Brown, a past student of Brunswick School and Whanganui High.
Sutherland-Smith won all four events she entered - the open singles and doubles and the under-16 singles and doubles with partner Madeleine Williams.
Meanwhile, under-16 boys singles runner-up Shane Colton from Wairarapa teamed up with George Harrison to win the age group doubles 6-3, 6-1 over his singles nemesis Tom Bolton from Wellington and his partner Henri William-Lyons.
