Whanganui District Council has failed in its bid to terminate the tenancy of a pensioner housing resident.
The council went to the Tenancy Tribunal last month claiming Don McMillan was refusing to properly clean his Tawa St flat or co-operate with council staff.
In a written decision the tribunal dismissed council's application to terminate the tenancy and instead ordered Mr McMillan to bring his flat up to a reasonably clean standard by October 6.
The tribunal said Mr McMillan must remove discolouration and urine from the toilet bowl, remove all soap and other residue from the shower, wipe all windows, vacuum the carpet and mop the vinyl flooring.
It said Mr McMillan was now "on notice" and failure to keep the flat reasonably clean and tidy in the future would likely result in termination of the tenancy.
