When Pernille Erstad encouraged her husband Thomas to visit NZ Glassworks on Sunday, he had no idea he would be moulding hot glass.
Mrs Erstad and the couple's three children had secretly booked a Fathers' Day paperweight workshop at the Rutland St hot glass facility.
Mr Erstad got to create his very own paperweight from molten glass with guidance from tutor Brendan Sole and assistant Ratna Dyer.
"The idea is to offer a uniquely Whanganui experience for Fathers' Day," said NZ Glassworks assistant Briarlee Rees.
"We have had a couple of father and son teams come in and share the experience today."
