Pupils at Huntley School in Marton have been putting their own Christmas wish lists aside to make sure other children will enjoy the festive season.
Rebecca Edwards, wife of Huntley principal Sam Edwards, has worked together with mothers of pupils at the school to assemble Christmas shoe boxes to be distributed to families in the area.
"Each box has been packed with gifts that are intended for a specific child," said Mrs Edwards.
"We know their age, gender, what their interests and tastes are."
Huntley School head girl Harriet Spence-Jones said each box has a selection of toys, books, soaps, bubble baths and trinkets.
"We have packed over 40 boxes with things that children will like to receive," she said.
The gifts were delivered to Westpac Bank in Marton yesterday where they have been placed beneath the giving tree ready for distribution.
The Marton shoebox gift partnership is also supported by Project Marton to assist Rangitikei families at Christmas time.
