The hunt is back on for the Whanganui region's top businesses.

The Whanganui Chamber of Commerce has announced its business awards will return this year after a three-year hiatus.

Chamber of Commerce president Raewyn Overton-Stuart said the chamber had partnered with ACU Aotearoa Credit Union as the event's main sponsor with an official launch to be held on August 8 when entries will open.

The awards launch evening will be held at Aotearoa Credit Union's refurbished premises in Victoria Avenue where categories and further sponsors will be announced.

"Entering the awards is a worthwhile experience, whether you are a new and emerging business, small enterprise or large organisation," Ms Overton Stuart said.

"The judging process gives you the opportunity to reflect on where your business is at and where it's going, with feedback from the judges helping to shape it for the future."

Ms Overton-Stuart said the awards also enabled local businesses to showcase their innovation, excellence and commitment to the region to a wider audience.

She encouraged businesses to get entries in quickly.

Entries close on September 9 and judging will happen over the following month.

Winners announced at the gala awards dinner on October 15.

The Dentists Whanganui won the supreme award the last time the competition was held in 2013.

Meanwhile, the Whanganui Chamber of Commerce, is looking re-establish the role of chief executive within the organisation.

"Re-launching the awards and recruiting a chief executive show our resolve to help shape the growth of the city," Ms Overton-Stuart said.

"We have a strong commitment to the Whanganui business community, and a strong belief in the future of the city."

Contact the Chamber of Commerce for more details regarding the launch or to register attendance or interest. Entry forms will be available at the launch or can be emailed - admin@whanganuichamber.net.nz
