The money has begun trickling in to pay for a roof on Whanganui's velodrome.
The Regional Velodrome Roofing Team last week launched their Velo5000 Club, signing up six financial supporters on the first night with others expressing an interest.
Patrons will permanently be recognised in a prominent location onsite along with two VIP passes to the opening of the covered velodrome.
The project is seen as creating a region-wide facility so another launch is planned for Palmerston North this month.
The team are also planning to promote the project at the River Trader's Market and are in the process of applying to various community funding organisations.
The launch was attended by Whanganui mayor Annette Main, Whanganui MP Chester Borrows and Bike Manawatu's Steve Stannard.
The Regional Velodrome Roofing Team have been working on the project for some years and need to raise the $5.8 million for the 135m by 75m tension membrane roof. The venue is owned by Whanganui District Council and managed by the Wanganui Events Trust.
