The man who was shot by police in central Whanganui last week has appeared in court.
Wattie Adolf Kahu appeared in the Whanganui District Court this morning facing charges including burglary and kidnapping.
Firearms charges including using an imitation firearm to prevent arrest were withdrawn by Police.
Kahu entered no plea.
The 49-year-old limped in and out of the dock, muttered something towards the public gallery and waved as he left.
Judge David Cameron remanded Kahu in custody to reappear on April 12 for pleas to be entered.
The incident on Thursday morning, March 24, involved armed police and dog handlers in a sweep through the Plymouth Street area in the central Whanganui. Plymouth Street and neighbouring streets were cordoned off for some hours.
