ACCOLADE: Douglas Wilson has been recognised for his work.

Whanganui chartered accountant Douglas Wilson has received one of his profession's highest accolades.

Mr Wilson, managing director of chartered accountancy firm Sewell & Wilson, has been awarded a Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand fellowship - one of 58 people worldwide to receive the recognition for 2015.

The fellowship recognises outstanding service to both the profession and the community.

Mr Wilson said he was humbled by the award: "The nice thing is that it comes from your peers."

He has a particular interest in business management advice, farming and auditing, and was finance chairman of the Wanganui Collegiate School board. He has also served on the Wanganui Business Development Board and as secretary to Waitotara Farmers Holding Co, River City Milk and the Wanganui branch of the NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants, and is currently secretary of the Wanganui Collegiate School Old Boys' and Girls' Association and administrator of the Whanganui Community Foundation.

The fellowship has been conferred on other local accountants over the years, most recently to Brian Rhodes (2013) and Rex McKinnon (2007).
