A car brought down powerlines when it hit a pole on Delhi Ave in Aramoho yesterday morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene near the Lucknow St intersection after a vehicle left the road and collided with the power pole.

Whanganui Fire senior station officer Craig Gardiner said there appeared to be no major injuries to the occupants of the vehicle.

Firefighters were at the scene for about an hour as lines were across the road. Mr Gardiner said the occupants were attended at the scene by paramedics.

A Powerco spokesperson said a private service line had been taken out and the lines company was called out at about 4am to disconnect it for safety reasons.

Callum Hagenaars, who was asleep when the car came to a stop on his family's front lawn, said he was woken by shouting.

He said the car had been heading down Delhi Ave towards Somme Pde. It had "obliterated" a power pole outside his property before smashing through a fence and coming to a stop on a front lawn.

Concrete and glass were strewn across the road, and the vehicle was fairly damaged.

The property was without power and internet until 2pm yesterday.
