Gemma Comrie is proud of her Happy Wanderers entertainment group for putting on a fundraising party at Wanganui Intermediate on Saturday for the Town family who lost members Jennifer and Zane in a car crash on May 9.
"There were brilliant efforts from preschools and primary schools. But we are disappointed that high schools didn't support the event and we made the call to cancel the disco when we realised we wouldn't get the numbers," said Gemma.
"It would appear that we have hit the $3000 mark, which is a great effort although we were aiming for $5000."
Ms Comrie said families were coming through the gate early and many of them stayed all day and enjoyed car rides provided by the Muscle Car Club, playing games including her own invention - bra pong and watching magician Ken Bates with his balloon creations.
"We have had a lot of lovely messages on Facebook from people who were there and I really want to thank Lisa Clark from intermediate for helping bring it all together, Viv Neill from Porse for organising the carwash, Ritesh Verma for being a great MC and there were some sea cadets there to help as well."
