Two Koha Shed volunteers helped get a woman and her three children out of a Gonville house as it caught fire this week.
Anton Houlahan and Kingi Manuka had just finished dropping off a bed to a woman who had been sleeping on a floor for two weeks when they saw smoke rising from a building in Carlton Ave.
It was about 7.56pm on Tuesday when they spotted it.
"I just put my foot down on the truck and sped around to where it was," Mr Houlahan said.
The garage and the car inside it were burning, and the flames were about to catch on to the house, he said.
