Using some clever technology, Wanganui District Council is mobilising more of its workforce to provide frontline services unseen by many other New Zealand organisations.
While it has to deliver the same range of services as larger councils, the Wanganui authority has smaller budgets and fewer resources so is hooking onto digital technologies to help it work smarter.
Jason Simons, the council's information services manager, said remote working and "bring your own device (BYOD)" were two areas key to helping the council achieve its goals.
"We can achieve massive efficiencies and improve services by enabling our people to work on the go," Mr Simons said.
"And offering a secure environment for our people to access work applications and information on their own familiar device ultimately helps increase our productivity."
