Many hands made light work of shifting the books from the Hunterville Community Library at the town hall to its new base at Hunterville School.
In Tuesday morning's light drizzle more than 20 people from the community helped move the books a short trip down Bruce St. The public library will operate alongside the school's so its hours will increase significantly.
The public library needed a new home following the retirement of its long-time librarian Jean England.
No one was sure how many books the library held but Hunterville School principal Stephen Lewis had measured 50m of books stacked side-by-side.
Mr Lewis was keen to help out the library and approached the committee earlier this year to offer the school as a premises.
