A tip straight from the horse's mouth is generally a winning wager - and Wanganui cancer patient Desrae Fowles has whispered that Hospice Cup Day on February 12 is the place to be.
The annual Wanganui Jockey Club fundraiser in support of Hospice Wanganui traditionally collects up to $10,000 for the charity.
Mrs Fowles said that, while the nurses and staff at Hospice Wanganui were the real heroes, the generosity of the community was essential to help keep the charity afloat and continue the good work for the terminally ill.
"The staff at hospice are kind, wonderful people who have our best interests at heart, and that includes the cook, who provides some wonderful meals. They are the real heroes," Mrs Fowles said.
"But they couldn't hope to care for us the way they do without help from the community and the jockey club's Hospice Cup Day is a great fundraiser.
