More than 1450 athletes from 213 schools - including teams from Tonga and the Cook Islands - called Wanganui home at the weekend as they took part in the NZ Secondary Schools Track and Field Championships and national road races.
Collegiate coach Alec McNab co-ordinated the mammoth event and he paid tribute to the excellent support from volunteers and particularly the outstanding student helpers. "The event went very well and we have had very good feedback from around the country," he said.
"Wanganui moteliers and restaurants should be delighted - I heard there was only one spare bed left in the city on Saturday night."
Chronicle photographer Bevan Conley was at Cooks Gardens capturing the action.
