No one has put their hand up to contest a Taihape Community Board byelection.
Nominations closed last month and none were received to replace Andrew Green who has resigned. It means the Rangitikei District Council will have to either call for another byelection, or allow the board to effectively shoulder-tap and appoint a new member.
The board has struggled for survival in recent years and the latest battle for interested representatives has highlighted the problem again.
In 2012 the district's two boards (Taihape and Ratana) were thrown a lifeline after strong public opposition to the council's proposal to scrap them.
The council then said the boards was not well supported and wanted to replace them with the less expensive but similar community committees.
