The centenary of the Dublin St Bridge will be celebrated tomorrow with a re-enactment of the ceremony held 100 years ago.
Organised by Wanganui South Rotary Club, the festivities begin at noon.
Wanganui mayor Annette Main and councillors will take part in the re-enactment, playing the parts of council leaders at the official bridge opening on November 3, 1914. Ms Main will have the role of the then-mayor Thomas Boswall Williams, Whanganui MP Chester Borrows will play then Labour MP W A Veitch, and actor Mike Street is cast as former mayor Charles Mackay, who was the master of ceremonies.
The official party will meet at the tram shed at 1pm tomorrow and about an hour later will travel to the Cornmarket reserve in vintage vehicles.
A platoon, representing soldiers who enlisted to fight in World War I, and a brass band will act as escort, before the mayor will cut a ribbon to re-enact the opening at 2.30pm.
